AORN Guidelines Compliance – Clenivax™

Detailed alignment of the Clenivax™ preoperative skin antisepsis system with the 2025 Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN) Guidelines for Perioperative Practice and related U.S. and international recommendations.

1. Applicable Standards & Scope

Clenivax™ is validated against the latest AORN Guideline for Preoperative Patient Skin Antisepsis (2025 edition). The guidance covers agent selection, application technique, drying intervals, fire safety, and sterile field maintenance. Supplemental references include the CDC/HICPAC 2017 Guideline for Prevention of Surgical Site Infection and NFPA 99 fire safety requirements.

Primary Guidance

  • AORN Guidelines for Perioperative Practice (2025), Chapter: Preoperative Patient Skin Antisepsis
  • AORN Fire Safety in the Perioperative Setting
  • CDC/HICPAC Guideline for the Prevention of Surgical Site Infection (2017)

Supplemental

  • AST Recommended Standards of Practice for Skin Prep (2023)
  • WHO Global Guidelines for SSI Prevention (2016)
  • NFPA 99: Health Care Facilities Code

2. Antiseptic Agent Compliance

Requirement AORN Expectation Clenivax™ Performance
Agent Composition Use an alcohol-based product containing CHG or povidone-iodine for intact skin. CHG 2% w/v + Isopropyl Alcohol 70% v/v (meets preferred agent recommendation).
Persistence Demonstrate sustained antimicrobial activity throughout the procedure. Residual CHG activity > 6 hours; on-label data validated via ASTM E2315 time-kill studies.
Drying Interval Allow complete drying prior to draping to mitigate fire risk. Validated minimum 3-minute dry time at 21°C / 40% RH; visual cue system on applicator handle.
Contraindications Clearly communicate contraindications (mucous membranes, open wounds). Printed IFU and eIFU highlight anatomical exclusions and alternative prep guidance.

3. Application Technique Validation

Friction scrub technique is supported with applicator ergonomics, training assets, and competency validation tools.

4. Sterile Field Integrity

Single-use sterile packaging prevents back-table contamination.

5. Fire Risk Mitigation

Clenivax™ integrates AORN fire-triangle controls.

6. Audit & Documentation Toolkit

Included Templates

  • Skin antisepsis policy template (AORN crosswalk)
